Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do we need to report if we’re not a listed company?
It depends on your situation. Large non-listed companies with annual revenue of RM2 billion and above will report under the NSRF from 2027. Many other companies report because their customers or buyers request for ESG information.

2. What is the difference between Bursa’s requirements and the NSRF?
Bursa’s sustainability reporting requirements set out what listed companies must disclose in their annual sustainability statement. The NSRF adopts the ISSB Standards (IFRS S1 and S2) and is being phased in for listed issuers and large non-listed companies, with a particular focus on climate-related financial information.

3. When does the NSRF apply to my company?
Main Market issuers with a market capitalisation of RM2 billion and above began from 2025. Other Main Market issuers follow from 2026, and ACE Market issuers and large non-listed companies from 2027.

4. We have no sustainability team. Can you still help?
Yes. Many of our clients don’t have a dedicated sustainability function. We guide you through what’s needed and work with whoever manages your operations, finance and HR data.

5. What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?
Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources you own or control, such as company vehicles and generators. Scope 2 covers emissions from purchased electricity. Scope 3 covers other indirect emissions across your value chain, such as purchased goods, business travel and transportation.

6. How long does a sustainability report take?
Timelines depend on your company’s size, data readiness and reporting scope. We’ll give you a realistic timeline after our discovery meeting.

7. What is a sustainability reporting gap analysis?
A gap analysis compares what your company currently discloses, and the data you have, against what is required, such as Bursa Malaysia’s requirements, the NSRF or the SEDG. You receive a clear list of gaps and a prioritised plan to close them before your next reporting cycle.
